MirrorDrive with incremental cloning and file version backup

by Dr. Wei Deng

DriveClone’s new MirrorDrive feature allow users to instantly use the MirrorDrive when disasters strike

With Mirror Drive technology, you can recover and replace a failed device with close to zero downtime. The state-of-the-art technology first converts and compares all files, then clone only the changed data to the hard drive, providing you with a high-grade-speed to complete the Mirror Drive process.

What you will learn…

• You will learn how to use DriveClone’s Mirror Drive.

• The article will teach you how to boot Mirror Drive on different computers, making migrate/replace new PC simple and easy

What you should know…

RTO, the abbreviation of recovery time objective, is defined as the longest endurable time for computer, system, network or applications to stop working after a breakdown or disaster. RTO is an important standard for data recovery. In total, DriveClone provides two RTO standard solutions; Mirror Drive and CVM (Convert to Virtual Machine). With Mirror Drive technology, you can replace a failed device with a Mirror Drive. In regard to CVM, all you have to do is load the converted VMware file with a virtual machine. Both of these recovery operations are effective and reduce overall down time tremendously.

Our Advantages

Incremental cloning

the safest way to back up important data is to duplicate the said data to an external storage device to achieve physically-isolated protection. However, the recovery process of traditional backup software is long and tedious, and can negatively affect your business operations.

With incremental cloning and other functions, DriveClone becomes an alternative and effective backup solution. Incremental cloning allows you to back up recently changed data quickly, and restoration only requires a boot up; business can operate without fear of down time in case of disaster.

Perfect Defrag Cloning

During the process of Mirror Drive, DriveClone will re-organize the whole hard drive data. Consequently, the destination hard drive’s performance is on average 20% faster than the original by keeping all blocks of files in order.

Smart Cloning

In order to optimize clone speed and reduce the destination drive’s size, DriveClone intelligently excludes temporary files, hibernation files, memory swap files, etc. from being cloned to the destination drive.

Dissimilar/Universal Boot Cloning

DriveClone keeps the cloned drive in a “Universal Bootable Format”, allows it to boot on different computers;

True UEFI System Support

UEFI has more advantages, such as larger capacity, superior performance, GPT disk supported, etc.As such, nearly all new PC motherboards have adopted UEFI technology. Farstone has made joint efforts with motherboard producers to perfect the support of UEFI-based mainboard. Thus far, we are the only one who supports dissimilar recovery of UEFI motherboard.

Multi-version File Recovery

FarStone is the first and best firm that have incorporated cloning as a true backup solution. Driveclone can clone iterations of files, automatically or specified, allowing restoration to any old data possible.

A Comparison Table for Similiar Products

DriveClone is the best cloning tool in the market. Below are the comparison between DriveClone, Paragon, and Acronis cloning solutions.

DriveClone provides two RTO standard solutions; Mirror Drive and Convert to Virtual Machine ( VMWare and Hyper-V format ). With Mirror Drive technology, you can replace a failed device with a Mirror Drive. On the other hand, you can also convert or load your data directly to a Virtual Machine format. Both solutions have the lowest RTO, thus allowing businesses to operate with no down time when disaster struck and also allowing migration to new hardware simple and easy.

How to setup a backup schedule for Total Backup Recovery?

1. Run Total Backup Recovery, and connect the storage device (eg: external hard drive) to your PC. In the below example, the USB hard drive’s letter is G)
2013-06-18-0012. Select Back Up in the main console, and check the hard drive that needs to be backed up, and set G (the destination storage) disk as Backup Destination.
2013-06-18-0023. Select Schedule (see above screenshot), and the following window will pop up. default is Back Up Now.

2013-06-18-0034. From here you can change the overall backup scheme. If you would like to backup once a month automatically, for example, you would change the “Backup scheme “to Schedule, then under “Run the task”, select monthly. Run the task monthly.
With this change, the program will run a complete backup on the first day of each month.

2013-06-18-0045. In the example, we need only one complete backup per month. So we deselect all days except for the 1st.

2013-06-18-0056. under the dropdown menu.

2013-06-18-0067. For the Clean up archive column, you can check

Retention rules:

if older backup is not important and you would like to increase storage space efficiency.

Set the backup time you need to keep at Keep xx backup set column. In our case, we set Monthly backup, and this Keep 3 backup set means that only the backup images from last 3 months will be kept.
